Ever wonder what "real" Chardonnay tastes like? Not the Chardonnay that is cloaked in so much new American oak that it smells like vanilla and coconut or so much malolactic fermentation that it tastes like a stick of butter? Well, here is your chance. Izzo has taken an approach to Chardonnay that is growing in popularity: letting the wine taste like Chardonnay and not the winemaking tricks imparted after harvest. When these grapes were harvested we crushed them simply, fermented them in a mixture of new and neutral French Oak and then blocked malolactic fermentation. The result? This Chardonnay that is rich in texture from sur lees aging, fruit forward with aromas of tropical fruit flavors and a creamy mouthfeel. Because this wine is understated, it is great as an aperitif or when paired with delicate dishes like chicken brushed with olive oil and grilled along side fresh vegetables. |
